Bill Evans Homecoming

In 1979 the late Bill Evans returned his alma mater, Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. According to Ron Nethercutt's fine liner notes Homecoming from Milestone (Milestone MCD-9291-2), it was his first concert at SLU since graduating in 1950 and the occasion for awarding Evans the school's first Distinguished Alumnus Award. Playing with Marc Johnson, bass, and Joe LaBarbera, drums, Evans explores a wide range of tunes from The Theme from M.A.S.H. to But Beautiful and I Loves You Porgy.Evans' return after almost 30 years, having reached the top as musician and jazz artist, was an event charged with intimate feeling and a genuine rapport between audience and performer. Homecoming includes an a short interview at the close of the CD.
